Program History and Philosophy

The Career Development Office in its current configuration began in 2001.
Since that time
the services provided by the CDO have expanded as more
staff and parents utilize Career Development funding as authorized by the Head Start guidelines.  The CDO works in collaboration with
Bakersfield  College and California Sate University, Bakersfield, to promote higher education in the Community Action Partnership of Kern.  More than one hundred and fifty parents and staff are currently attending college utilizing resources provided by the CDO.

The Career Development Office has the responsibility for providing resources for higher education that will allow for the betterment of quality of life and the development of skills that increase the quality of services to children and families.  The better educated that our staff are, the better equipped they are to prepare the children for transition to the Kindergarten level.

An Eye Toward The Future

·        Skill Training for Parents.

·        Job search and placement for parents.

·        Intern and volunteer placement.

·        Expansion of on-site courses for staff and parents.
